One of those days

Hi all, well had Peter up for a visit today, we talked about scopes and in particular the collimation of my Lx200. He brought a whole plethora of laser collimators. So we thought we would give them a go to collimate my scope. Don't get me wrong, the scope can be collimated pretty well by star. However, I want perfection or as near to it as possible.

Unfortunately, the collimators did not work and put the scope out again. Not to worry though I have got it back to where it was last night in about half an hour tonight with the laptop and toucam method.

Funny thing happened while we were putting my laser collimator onto the scope. I accidently dropped the zero image focusor onto my foot and then it bounced onto the pavers below the deck. Watching it in slow motion as it hit the concrete pavers. Another place to put carpet. Peter said I won't tell anyone if you don't. I did not loose it, I just thought well thats luck for you. Anyway as it turns out, the micro focusor is working fine besides a couple of dents. Pretty embarrassing, dropping something like that. But you got to laugh when you have one of those days that has the highs of getting a good capture of Jupiter and the lows of dropping a piece of equipment.

Thanks Peter for coming over and trying to sort out my collimation. We learnt a few things, normal laser collimators are not to be used on SCT's. Good thing to learn and so I am now outside once again waiting for the wind to die down and the seeing to get better so that I can do the final collimation with the toucam and the laptop.

Clear skies to all and

No probs, it was all good. Must admit my heart was in the mouth when I saw the focuser going for the deep six. Mate you gotta do something about the mozzies, I am itching like you would not believe tonight. I reckon they hammered me without me knowing.

Seeing tonight is absolutely ordinary, and the gully winds are playing havoc as well. Still got to press on.
Oh yeah did the Kendrick laser collimator being re-collimated have any effect?

Have not checked yet as to whether the Kendrick is any better. Will do that later today.

The Mozzies don't bother me. I get bitten and they die. I don't itch for some reason. But there is a problem up in blackwood, everyone has the damn things.

How did you go last night, did you get any images?

Cannot collimate with anything other than a SCt laser collimator. We tried all the other types and they just make matters worse. The trouble is that a SCT has a concave mirror and a convex secondary. Using a conventional laser setup will not recollimate your scope. There is a procedure that must be undertaken to correct collimation and of course there are several types of SCT collimators on the market with several different collimation techniques.

All very confusing and frustrating, however I am sure that Kendrick would not sell junk and I will need to learn how to do this. That way I will always have perfect collimation. Hehehe.

Thanks Vermin for the imput.
