Adelaide peaked at 42.1 degrees today with the next four days forecast to reach 42, 43, 43 and 40. The record number of consecutive days above 42 in Adelaide is 4. We should at least equal the record and there's a small chance to break it depending on when the change comes through on Friday. Minimum temperatures are also set to hover above 30 degrees for most of the night. Keep cool everyone!
Dan, I believe it is 6 consecutive days, mute point though as it is just plain hot in those conditions.
(The heatwave would come behind streaks of six days above 40C that were recorded in 2009 and 1908.
From January 27 to February 1, 2009, the mercury reached highs of 43.2C, 45.7C, 43.4C, 43.1C, 41.1C and 40.6C on consecutive days.
From January 14 to January 19, 1908, the mercury reached highs of 40.7C, 43.1C, 41.8C, 43.4C, 42.8C and 43.4C on consecutive days.)
Going to be hot in subarctic old Melbourne aswell.
43C tomorrow followed by 3 more potential 40C days. Big seabreeze effect today, city only had 31C while the eastern suburbs got 35-37C. Was hot and humid where I am in Berwick. Dripping sweats at work. And to think last two nights out observing I was just about shivering...
It's coming our way in Sydney but we'll be saved by the north easterly sea breeze and nights aren't too bad. You guys are going to be suffering with 5 days of this.
How do you guys cope with that? I live in the hot, dry part of NZ, the bit with the continental-like climate, yet the hottest I've ever recorded is "only" 34.4 °C, and that was scorching. (To me, anyhow.)
