You can get 5mw ones from Andrews for $99 - that's pretty darn cheap. I paid $125 for mine.

It's unlikely you'll find many people wanting to get rid of them, they're so cool to use

See Mark Hodson.....I bought one of Graham (Saturn%) which I think is tuned up to 15mw for $140......I love it.

5 minimum.. any more than 5 is just ego, but it's up to you.

hector has a 20mw, and when both are shining at the stars, sure the 20mw is a brighter beam, but they end up at the same point (on the star), so it just depends whether you want to spend extra.

Argo ... you will find the tuned ones are better in light polluted or moonlit skies.
Obviously the higher the wattage the more danerous they are, had a friend bring some "Tuned" ones back from China.
Customs tested them & heated plastic enough to make it curl up
Needless to say they confiscated them

I got my 25mw second hand from a friend who upgraded to a 50mw -
I just read on another list today that with the stronger one's maybe you can trigger the PE switch in some streetlights to fool them into thinking its daytime and they switch off - this was in the USA - are our streetlights the same setup? and for how long does this last - anyone tried it?

PS they vary in strength/range by up to 5mw either side of designated average mw everytime you turn them on ie 20-30mw = 25mw

Yep, I used a bright torch! Streetlight only stayed off for 1 minute then slowly lit up again. Within 3 minutes it was back at full strength!!!!!

Hmmmmm.... I wonder if a red laser would work? Even better, a red LED laser...

In theory, one could build a simple contraption that flashed the laser at the light once a minute or so... then the streetlight would be mine, all mine! Brew-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Any amateur evil scientists with red lasers out there want to give it a go?
