Occultation of Antares by the Moon 8/7/06

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum so I thought I would post some images of Antares being occultated by the moon, well, just before it occurred anyway. The images were taken just before 4.50 p.m. with my recently acquired Skywatcher Pro 100ED and Canon 350D. They were taken at prime focus at around 1/125 sec and 3456 x 2304 pixels. The JPEG images came out at around 1.7MB although they have been played around with in Paint Shop Pro 9 to reduce them to about 150K so they can be posted in this forum.
Unfortunately no images of Antares's reappearance were forthcoming as the clouds rolled in. The occultation was supposed to be 24 minutes, just goes to show how fast the weather can change here in the 'sunny' Blue Mountains!

That's all for now, clear skies folks.

Hi UniPol and welcome to the forum!

Nice images! You could probably selectively enhance Antares to make it more visible, because I was struggling to make it out in those shots.

Thanks for your kind thoughts guys. I deliberately didn't tell anyone where to find Antares in the pics, tests their eyesight and besides, Antares is a long way away you know.

I had to enlarge it and slide the image backwards and forwards to identify it. Damn dust laptop screens

Nice one!

Thanks for posting! I had a hurried attempt at viewing with my 20x80s... not sure if I missed it timewise, or my 'nocs weren't big enough to see Antares in the daylight ? Either way I missed it so thanks for the pics!

Al.
