Nice detail for 1.5 hours Chris

Are you using the CLS filter with your set up at home?

Thanks Rod,

Yes, it almost never leaves the Atik nosepiece, it is SO sludgy around here it almost makes me want to leave or at least go narrowband with a mono camera.

Cheers

Chris

Hmmm, strange, they are a very nice camera indeed.

Maybe you should crack it open and give it a bash?

It would be nice to see what the image scale is on your Tak refractor.

Haven't got the SV refractor any more, Chris-got a Tak TSA120 now. Image scale should still be ok. its just the light pollution where I live.

Sorry,

Yep, I fixed my post after I posted it, as I saw your signature and went...."oops". Seems like you beat me to the edit.

The Tak should do fine, what suburb's light scourge do you have to contend with?

Chris

I'm in Padstow , Chris. Lots of street lights and one neighbour is paranoid about burglaries and has movement sensing lights-his dog trips them all the time. Lucky if I can see more than 3rd magnitude stars sometimes!

Nice capture Chris, especially from suburban Sydney.

I have given up attempting any imaging from my backyard...the pollution, trees, street lights, neighbours.....not worth the effort to set up.

Good luck.

Ross.

Thanks Ross

Yes, I am contemplating going NB with a mono camera once I finish the obs (or get it started first)....

too much light pollution to try and process out, its very annoying.

Cheers

Well done Chris for trying a galaxy from the middle of that slightly light polluted country town of Sydney, the result is not bad at all and was worth doing I recon

You may recall, for the first 18 months I used the AG12 ( a fast wide field astrograph so hates light pollution) from inner suburban Newcastle which is as bad and perhaps even worse than Kellyville the light pollution was bad (and so was the seeing) so I didn't image galaxies and I used NB filters almost exclusively (never a light pollution filter) and I can say, you can get some very respectable images this way. I learned to combine my NB data with my colour data to produce RGB looking images too...so go with that observatory mate Of course using a scope under dark (and steady!) skies makes a big difference...did I mention the wind

Cheers Mike,

I do recall some of those images and also the amount of LP you used to have.

Mine is sort of a "dirty" sludge which pervades the whole frame, something I noticed wasnt there when in the Hunter Valley for IISAC.

I started the framework for my "pier" yesterday, but a bit hottish today so after some minor sunburn I think I might wait until later to sort out the mounting plate and start the concrete.

I'm getting there, slowly.

Cheers

Chris
