Today I went to Chermside with the boy to have a look around. I was dragged into the Australian Geographic store. I ended up dragging him over to the telescopes, just to see how much they were overcharging for their gear.
Hot on the trails of the $49.95 Aldi 'Dobson' that is still available in the local stores, Australian Geographic now has a Sky Watcher version selling for $129.95

I picked up the display item and it looks to be the same item as the Aldi 'National Geographic Dobson' with the addition of a cheap and nasty finder scope. That must be how they justify they extra $80.
The lady on the shop floor came over and informed me that these scopes were, "
Very very good, with lots of mirrors inside to let you see a really long way". I thanked her for the information. She then proceded to blow some bubbles which had already left some marks on the primary. Naturally I bought ten.
