47 Tucanae NGC104

This is a nice object for achro refractors as the stars in the field are mostly too faint to show much CA.

Details... 25 x 1 min subs at ISO 1600, 6 x 3 min subs at ISO 400 and a 30 second for the core. Unmodified Pentax K-x, Baader semi-apo filter, SW 120mm F5 achro refractor.

Air temperature was 28 degrees so I tried putting the camera in the fridge before shooting which was a stupid idea since it fogged up as soon as I took it out lol. I can be a doofus sometimes.

Nice one Kevin I was imaging this the other night as a test for my newly built 8 inch f6 newt

It was also first light for a brand new Canon 1100D, very impressed by the high ISO noise performance. I could only manage 30 sec subs as I haven't figured out polar aligning with the IEQ45 yet.

Cheers
Jo

Thanks Jo.

I find 47 Tuc nicer visually than looking at a photo, especially through a big dob.

it's a great object, and photographically it's a good object to practice on due to it's dynamic range in brightness, similar to that of the Orion Nebula, you have to be very careful not to burn out the core. I actually look forward to going back to do this one once I get my 8" scope.
