OSX 10.9 Mavericks for 100% free and legal and on my PC

Just letting you guys know that Mavericks is free, that right 100% free. The guys at mac have done what i call an out of this world job with this release and i couldn't wait to get it on my rig. I pulled 13000 odd last night with in geek mark but today she's only hitting 9000, dam power management lola will fix that. So grab it from iTunes today if your mac is compatible and update for free. Heres a screen of my install just think what it can do at 4.5ghz

It's free (as in beer) but only licensed to be used on Apple-branded hardware. So no, not legal on your PC.

Did I miss something? Isn't a Mac an Apple product?

His screenshot appears to be Apple (though I'm not 100% certain, as I've never owned an Apple product).

Haha 2001 mac pro's don't pack a gtx 760 and a i5 3570k, but illegal isn't correct as its a grey area in terms of apples terms and conditions due to the dev and darwin boot loader. None of apples files are reversed engineered on pc and i use darwin which is open source to boot the os, now this is why its not illegal. Apart from 2 ktexts my install is the same as a real mac pro and ktexts aren't illegal. Tonymac runs a great site and insainlymac which holds some ktexts and work i have done.

Back on the topic free as beer is right and its great for long term people like myself who have paid for each release over the years. Its there way of giving back like ms with 8.1, which really is just a minor update and ms don't give 8.1 for free ether. Theres some great things with this OS like native nvidia kelper support from the get go, so mac pro owners can finally get some real power gpu wise at a very low cost in the macs.

If only ms would allow it's directx api to become open source i would never use windows again. It's really the only thing which has killed gaming on linux and mac though with valve and others no pushing OpenGL once again we are getting a trickle of good titles just not the one i play battlefield 3/4. Though battlefield 4 on your iMac is never going to happen, hell my desktop gtx 760 just cuts the mustard to give enough fps and eye candy to make it good. Really its iMacs and mobile based cpu's and gpu's holding gaming back on macs but then how many people can afford a mac pro?

The last majour release (Mountain Lion) was $20.00 and the one before that (Lion) was $29.00. That's almost 'free' for a ultra modern operating system for the past two ~ 3years.

Running a 'hackintosh' is like slapping a M-badge on a 318. Current iMacs are beautiful products and you should buy one.

The apple 'eco-system' is the reason for this and future ones going free. It's designed to SELL MORE Apple products ie: macs, iPads, iPhones, Apple TV's etc not to mention unreleased products (rumoured) like iWatches, TV's etc.

For me as well !
Two weeks ago I upgraded my girlfriend's 2009 white Macbook (running Snow Leopard 10.6.8) skipping (Mountatn) Lion, and it went faster and the battery lasted longer, despite it contains only 2GB RAM.
Then I upgraded my 2011 MB Pro from ML and same experience. Nearly all apps ran, I only had to upgrade VMware to 6.0.

So this is a great update ! Less RAM consumed, thanks to 'Power Nap' which dumps idle background apps out of the memory.
This technology is already in Android and iOS.

Hackintosh can be useful when trying out a new version under VMware, so without updating the native OS on your Mac in case something goes wrong.

I've resisted the 'legal' upgrade on my Macbook and MacMini. I'm not sure that TheSkyX is ready for it, just yet. Perhaps in the new year.

Bah imac's are nothing but notebooks packed in a screen, mac pro's are my lust and flavor. I don't hate imacs but there way under powered against the true mac pro's but like i said not many people can afford a fully packed mac pro and keep upgrading. The very best imac only has a single GTX 775M and and a locked a i7 at 3.5ghz. A gtx 775m is the same as a desktop gtx 570 which really can't handle battlefeild 4 and sucks with metro. At $2499 with only the locked i5 for this top of the range imac model and my desktop costing only close to $1300 which can run at 4.5ghz and packing a card thats not that far off the power of 2 gtx 775m's its a no brainier. Many of us modders take mac pro cases and outfit them with pc components to you would never even know, though my cm stacker 830se is way more sexy then a mac pro case.

I tried the software under Leopard and Snow Leopard and filed it under great big $150 mistake. It was just comically bad and dysfunctional. The SB forums were no help, and unlike Peter I didn't have the opportunity to travel to the States and slap the stuff around the makers' face myself...

Truthfully, I have not encountered a worse coded piece of Mac software than TheSky X. But your mileage may vary.

Nonsense. There is no law which prohibits running OSX on any non-Apple hardware. OK, Apple does not like it as they miss the sale of a Mac computer.
Just like a jailbroken iDevice or a rooted Android device is completely legal, but Apple resp. the device manufacturer and the advertisers don't like it.
BTW I have Mavericks only on Apple hardware.

Installing OSX in non-Apple hardware certainly is illegal if you bothered to read the EULA and the relevant legislation here. No ifs, no buts.

At the moment it is not in their interests to enforce this but they could make like tough for the hackintosh crowd if they wanted to - by way of example the AppleTV3, for which there is still no way to jailbreak. They know how to slam the door shut, if they wanted to.

Yes. I get good milage. Depending when you used it last, much has changed in the way of features.
