NGC 2070 55x16 min frames for Processing

Tarantula 55x16 min in NII. Full res stack in tiff form. Have a go at processing.

16MB

The fact the image compressed to 16 MB tells us there is no or little noise!

14hrs of excellent data Bert. Admire the dedication. Impressive FoV. Your presented image has magnificent details but the dynamic range significantly suppressed giving a mono tone feel. The area is a tough one as it does have many bright features. Perhaps back off the dynamic range adjustments a little and let the highlights and mid tones start come back through.

Jase I put up that small image to show what was there. My motive was to pick the brains of the people here as to what they could get out of the data.

Here is the best I can do for now 15MB

the inverse version 15MB

Here is a compressed file of the 55 frames stacked at x1.5 times the native resolution of the sensor. 25MB

This is a tad over 2'' per pixel resolution.

This was purely an exercise to see how far the system could be pushed.

The reality with a fast system is that the previously unreachable dimmer stuff rises above the noise and mega data still has to be collected to minimise the noise. In this Universe there is no free lunch!

I had a tinker at this data. When you stack the data you should scale it at the same time. It needed to go through CCDstack to open the data out again.

I did not stretch to hard myself but noticed that this looks like a median combine. I think sum would work better for this data.

What filter are you using. Is this NII?

Anyway, I did some stretching, smooth background a little, and did a curves adjustment too it. I think your original version was black point clipped and had this odd look to the background. I find less is more. You may not agree. I had to mask in the core too to get it looking less blown out. If you stretch the data too hard with something like shadows and highlights it can look too flat.

He is my little version of it.

Here's my go at it, I prefer less contrast than the previously presented efforts. I particularly like the star field of the other galaxy coming through.

Bit of a stretch and contrast in PI.
Tried to respect the light. Err, nitrogen.
