Rosette in Ha - ED80

hi,

First real attempt at gathering some decent data now that I've got most of my bits working.
Taken 2 nights ago, close to new moon with a newly acquired ED80 and a Baader MPCC coma corrector (since I don't have a flattener)
The MPCC seems to be doing a decent job, of course it won't replace a flattener but it does the job.
I'm hoping to get a 0.8x reducer flattener. the F7.5 of the ED80 is painfully slow compared to the F4, but a nice FOV.

7 x 20m Subs
Baader 7nm Ha Filter
STF8300M Mono
Guided with a Lodestar and the TS9-OAG

Stacked in Maxim, Processed in Startools.

POW! The ED80 packs some punch. Value for money a real winner. Great image Alistair. The Rosette fits the FoV very well. You planning on adding some RGB or more filtered narrowband?

Really nice image Alistair - fine detail and very smooth.

Nice sharp image Alistair. Field looks fairly flat, but there may be a slight focuser tilt. The stars in the bottom right corner are perfectly round, while there is slight elongation in the top left corner. I had a similar issue and it drove me nuts trying to correct it, so I eventually just learned to live with it.

Thanks Justin, yeah, it was fairly simple to set up compared to a Newt, especially an F4.
The ED80 is a really nice all rounder, just need to get it down to an F5

Absolutely. My wife was amazed at how I was imaging with the full moon. It was like the floodlights
were turned on, then she understood where all the money went for the NB filters :-) and why I need to get the S2 and O3 filters!

edit: yes, I'm planning on adding more data for an HaRGB version.
Thanks Jase. yes, the ED80 is very good value for money. It was just a bit more than a normal Achro, but
very decent colour correction.

I've learnt the importance of decent amount of data and have changed my approach from trying to
nab multiple targets in one night, to atleast a few hours on one target to do it any justice.
Startools did an excellent job at controlling noise.

Thanks Geoff. I didn't have to sharpen this, just focus. need to get a Baht mask made.
the Tilt is probably my dodgy 2 inch Extension tube that has only one nut holding the whole train.
I do push the OAG flat against the drawtube and then tighten, but I've got to get some threaded adaptors to remove tilt.
This is still the stock focuser though so may have some small tilt.

Very nice Alistair, the MPCC is a pretty good make-shift corrector. Hope getting used to the slowness of f/7.5 didn't annoy you too much from your f/4 My only feedback is that I reckon stretch it harder, to really make it pop You got the subs to do so!

Nice work, Alistair. Good detail in the nebula. The MPCC has given you some reverse coma in the corners but it's not too noticeable at less than 1:1.
