I finally bit the bullet yesterday and bought a license to RegiStar, so now I can easily process my DSLR shots that contain field rotation or other lensing/distortions/scaling.
This means I've finally been able to process a bunch of images from
the last few months. There are more I have yet to do but this first
set have surprised me. They are all images taken on a light weight
fixed tripod, with the camera simply sitting there, not tracking at
all for the whole night. All are 20 or 30 second exposures,
stacked/aligned.
they are nice. much more detail then i can execute
i have tried simular shots in my backyard, same method just from a conventonal camera tripod with my ha 350d, but i still havent learned to stack yet, nor do darks flats and lights, the sky finally cleared up today i hope it stays clear tonight
ive been put out for more then 4 consecutive days cause of the clouds, i downloaded that registax afew days ago havent worked it out yet eather haha, maybe i will try give it a go at trying the same thing again, cept taking afew pictures and to stack them like you have.
its quite a blast the pictures you can take without a scope or tracking mount, i think there are just more limitations added to how you can do it.
So far I've been amazed by it's capabilities. It hasn't mis-aligned a single frame, and some of the sequences I have been aligning are from fixed tripod taken over a period of 2 hours - so lots of movement, with fixed foreground objects to add confusion, and a little movement as I nocked the tripod, slight zoom adjustments, etc. Prefect results.

Well i'm definately a fan of those images, great detail with a huge field of view.
