Moonee Headlands

I got a bit carried away and took this 180 megapixel 18 shot panorama yesterday! I did take raw images as well as jpg, but this is a 'holiday' process of the jpgs to see how it will shape up.

The tide was out so I carried the gear out into the bay and had some fun taking rather a lot of 30 second iso 1600 shots with my cannon 650d and Sigma 8-16 lens at 10mm (APS). I have tried higher iso, but find that noise becomes an issue on hot nights, so will have to stick to less spectacular sky until I get a new body.

Nice Work!
I have been considering doing something similar at Poona (now the Milky Way is over the West) but.... I was always too scared of the town lights.
You have pulled it off nicely.
Especially the even lighting on the sand.

Thanks for the words of encouragement

I'd rather hoped to have posted a reprocessed version from the cr2 data by now, but am still trying to get the sky right - I need to find some consistency in my processing; ah, the joys of being a rookie...

OK, had another play and came up with this slightly less subtle version. Not convinced I prefer it!

They are both great, but I prefer the first.
It's all personal preference.
Well done.

Loving the foreground in that Jonathan Great shot! Looks like you need to have another play with the WB settings and Tint in your RAW processed version. Looks a bit too magenta in the sand and the artificial lights look a little off as well (to my tastes).

Great shot Jonathon, I prefer the first one with the more subtle processing.

The textures foreground looks great. Do you have any single frame compositions of the area I think that could look good as well.

Thanks for the comments all, and I agree with the consensus that the more natural look is better. I'm back in front of dual monitors so can have a better go at processing now and will look at some of the single frames to.

I do have some iso 3200 shots which were not nearly as noisy as I thought they would be, and may try and use tem as the sky. If nothing else, I know where to go next winter to try do the job properly
