A Few Images With My Acro...

G'day

I thought I'd post some of my first images I took back in March and April.

All taken though my newly built 110mm f4.5 refractor and Panasonic GX1, manually guided on my horse shoe mount.

Omega Centauri, 5x128sec.

Carina, 90x40sec.

Leo Trio, 30x128sec.

Hope you like them,

cheers
Jo

No sorry Pat, I got the unmounted crown and flint from Surplus Shed,

I am certainly looking forward to grinding my own lenses one day.

Do you grind lenses your self?

Cheers
Jo

Like the images, especially the Leo trio.

What made you do 128 sec exposures (not say, 120)?

128 sec was the longest the little GX1 could do on Bulb

Wow! Jo. Very well done. Yes, please post pics of your scope and mount. That GX-1 does a nice job too.

Really nice detail in those. Sharp as a pin too.
Do you have links to some full size images?

I'd love some details and images of the scope as well.

Well done!

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone

Here are some pics of the scope, it isn't exactly very flash

The tube is a bit of PVC pipe, and the focuser I made from bits of scrape aluminium.

Some of the first images taken with the scope had funny stars on the left side (like Carina) so I made a colimatable lens cell which seamed to fix the problem.

Anyway the pictures are, side view, focuser, me and scope, on my mount.

Cheers
Jo

You did a fantastic job on that scope, I'd love to see some full resolution images from it!

Which lens did you get from the Surplus Shed?

Your ability to design, problem solve and fabricate is there for all to see. Looks to me like you have already earned your stripes in the ATM ranks.

So, a cooled DSLR should be a no brainer and will be a work of art - you are the master of understatement Jo.

Hi Jo,

I have to say I'm blown a way by what you have built, and the fact you were able to get such good images out of your setup!!

I think you will have a bright future ahead of you!

Cheers,

Justin.

Smokes! Those are incredible images for such a short focus achromat. I can't believe how little CA is present in those images.

Awesome ATM skills too! That little horseshoe mounts looks superb.

Thanks for posting,
Cam
