I was wondering if anyone has captured M31 before here in Aust? I know it is a northern object but it seems like M31 rises here at 6:20am ish which gives us a chance to capture it. This is my favourite galaxy of all time. Im going to give it a go next clear melb weather but if anyone has already captured it here in Aust, please post it
I did M31 last week Eric, it's also my all time favourite but I haven't processed the frames yet.
Also I didn't get enough exposure time and also day break beat me in the end.
I'm reluctant to post this cos it's terrible, it's only a single 80 sec exp with lots of noise etc, etc but here goes.
I was going to hold off till I had a chance to do the rest of the processing and then post the final image, but no worries.
On my CRT it looks better but if viewed on my cheap lappy screen it looks very grainy, understandably.
Thanks Mike.
I'm laughing all right; but with tears of joy mixed with envy. That is an amazing image with incredible detail visible in the intricate dust lanes. And so low on the horizon too!
andrew, thats a great image! my horizon is blocked so i cant even see in that direction... but if i could it would be drowned in light pollution in that direction anyhow
I thought you were posting an image to show what the andromeda should look like...that was my first impression anyway I didn't realize until further comments were made it was yours...lol
I know what your saying being a little grainy but who cares thats just awesome.
I have viewed M31 many years ago. To get it now I first would have to extend my pier by about 300mm. Instead of doing that I will look out for your result.
rocket, mods are not meant to take images like that!!!
there you go ezy, i have seen this from melbourne last november as a smudge, you mission Jim, if you choose to accept it is to nail this sucker over the next few months!!
I am sure you will.
Heres one from the Image plus forums taken by one of the guys on the states, I love it
Andrew, pretty sweet pic awsome for an horizon hugger.
The best view I ever got of M31 was thru all things a 114mm Tasco reflector when I lived in Nelson Bay. I could see the dust lane and everything. Because where I live now there is light pollution on the northern horizon, I just see the core
There's a tree and fence in my backyard from the north direction. If somehow i can shoot through the tree's branches and maybe if M31 moves abit more NNW then i can capture it. hopefully by then it won't be too bright.
