M8-M20 region in Ha with debayered 350D

Hi all,

I borrowed a debayered Canon 350D DLSR for Alistair (Alistairsam) and tried it last Tuesday night on the M8-M20 region is Ha with a 165mm lens at F2.8. Image is 60 minutes as 6 x 10min subs guided.

Full res image at

Alistair removed the bayer mask from this camera himself. I was impressed by how well it worked and I thought I would share.

Best regards,

Mark

Looks seriously posterized and flat to me....

This region is 'oft imaged e.g. here

I suspect the, sorry....not great result you posted...... is due too much .jpg compression rather than the de-bayered camera.

Do you have a less compressed version?

G'day Mark,

Great to see the mono 350d getting some use

I'm yet to do some wide fields with mine.

Cheers
Jo

Thanks Jo, hope you get to use yours soon.

Thank you Peter for your comments. After a few minutes thought I agreed with you. It was not all a jpeg compression problem more a problem with me naively stretching the contrast far too much. I went back to my data, this time gathering and applying some darks, reprocessed, and I believe the result is far better. Although, not nearly as impressive as your image. Your image contains fine detail and impressive subtle contrast far beyond mine.

My results here:

Thank you for taking the time to comment.

Best regards,

Mark
