NGC300 Galaxy with DSI II (a frustrated one)

Hi Guys,

Spent a very long time finding this object even though it is only classed as mag 8.8. Took this actually right before the sunrise Also managed to capture 2 shots of Orion M42 in the morning until i see blue on my screen lol .

Anyway, i only managed to capture 8 shots before i got a blue image from the sun. Hardly any details came out . Was wondering if anyone have taken images of this object that I can have a good look at for comparison?

cheers

Hi Eric

This is one low surface brightness galaxy! Here is my attempt using a Vixen 4 inch f9 refractor and ST7E ccd camera. I took 12 exposures of 300 seconds and still barely recorded anything.

You have done well to get your image with 8 x 84 secs, although the 8 inch f4 is much more suitable for imaging faint objects.

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks Dennis. I feel more relief now that youve mentioned the galaxy is dimm. Wonderful image .

Ahh yes, this one, one of the classic "but it's supposed to be so bright!" objects. I remember having trouble with it because of the large FOV required, and originally having problems finding it. I'm sure I'd find it no problem now but my FOV hasn't gotten any larger.

What you have there Eric looks like a pretty good attempt to me.

Roger.

thanks guys. I'll see if I can get another chance capturing it with more frames stacked and maybe longer exposure. From the look of Hubble pics, this galaxy looks really interesting.

Cheers all.
