Triffid nebula with UHC-S- broadband nebula filter

This picture was taken through a SW 120ED with a Baader UHC-S-broadband nebula filter and unmodified canon 60D. Details , 12 x 10minute exposures ( total 2hours) with darks , flats and biases. stacked in DSS with dslr settings Black point ticked , auto and camera white balances boxes left unticked. processed in DSS and photoshop.

Nice.

I just checked my DSS settings - I'm almost completely opposite on the boxes I check: Only Auto White Balance is ticked, the rest clear. I am using a 6D though, not sure how much that affects things.

I think I'll have to do some experiments and see what the difference is.

Did you have any trouble with the colour balance due to the filter Phil?

Hi Jen,
I think there's a slight pink/ red cast on the pictures , when you look at bright light inthe observatory with camera connected the viewing screen is pink. Not sure how you adjust the colour cast. I prefer the pics I've taken in the last 3 nights to those without the filter.

I have to now go and check my dss filters as everyone seems to get much better results then I do!

Nice image, Philip.

You might want to reprocess with "Auto white balance" checked. That could deal with the colour cast. The UHC filter does give a pretty strong magenta to the stars.

This is a great image.

The red cast in the image is possibly supposed to be there, considering the area is Ha rich.
