2014 Star Party/Astro Camp/Event Calendar?
With Christmas just around the corner I am trying to pencil in a calendar for 2014. Haven't seen much discussion on 2014 astro events other than the IIS Annual Event at Lostock (24th-27th April 2014, which is Anzac Day weekend and the weekend after Easter). I recall hearing about a proposed astro camp at Chaffey Lake NSW around the end of February but no real detail. Looking at the 2014 Astronomy Aus Guide I see there are seven New Moon weekends next year that might be useful (additional ones on New Years day and next Christmas so they are out). There are no New Moon weekends that have a public holiday before or after, with the exception of the ISS Annual Event. As far as Lake Chaffey is concerned the Saturday 1st of March New Moon is assumed.
In addition, there are 8 other weekends that have very long hours of darkness (most if not all of the night), where the moon does not set or rise during acceptable observation times. I have not counted the ones that occur around the New Moon weekends or in January or December as they are considered too hot by many people. These dark night weekends are: 1/2 Feb; 3/4 May; 24/25 May; 21/22 June; 23/24 Aug; 20/21 Sept; 18/19 Oct; and 15/16 Nov.
Anyone care to share what they know about upcoming, or about to be planned events?
