I am guessing that closer to the event, local Astronomical Societies will be asked to set up some telescopes outside QPAC. I am sure a similar style of event happened in the recent past and the Amateur Astronomers were asked to assist. The 6th Nov 2014 will be just before Full Moon and the 9th will be just after.

Hi,

Pandemonium

There is a deeper current running in all of this of course. Prof Cox is an ideal ambassador for cosmology and astronomy just now because he is popular with us public. I like watching his programs, and if I wasn't already, would then be turned onto thinking about the cosmos.

So what I mean is, in an era when NASA is suffering budget cuts in proposed programs

http://www.space.com/20622-nasa-budg...ence-2014.html

and telescope design programs face similar long term cuts

http://www.livescience.com/26096-nsf...uncertain.html

a bit of popularisation by Prof Cox is really good, if it encourages US committeepersons to think there is a vote or two in it.

What do you think? Can he influence the moneybags?

Cheers

I think perhaps he can... maybe. Well it can't hurt!
The more exposure, the better.
Tho, thinking about it.. I, I don't see that much of Brian advocating political stuff- does he, much? Where as Neil deGrasse Tyson does. Perhaps because NDT does more public speaking .

Thanks Mario for the heads up on this.
I will be there for sure. I love seeing the Qld Symphony Orchestra perform, have seen them plenty of times- and wow with the combination of Brian and the Cosmos, I can say my life would be complete!

November 2014 is too far away, what a tease, I can't wait that long!!!
