Jupiter Sept 24th

Hi All,

Imaged Jupiter this morning in poor seeing. Have put together my first RGB for the apparition. Even though the seeing was rather ordinary the long lived SEB light spot, highlighted in John Rogers report from this morning, shows up in this RGB and my 742nm IR data. The level of detail in the IR was a pleasant surprise.

Thanks for looking.

Regards
Trevor

Thanks for the views Trevor. I reckon I'm going to really struggle to get any Jupiter before opposition.

Always good to see Jupiter again, thanks Trevor. Looks interesting around the GRS.

Hi Trevor. If you were about to buy a new mono cam which way would you go the flea 3 or the zwo 120mm?

Thanks Ivan, reckon we are all going to struggle the next 2 years with Jove but then it comes back well and truly our way to Join Mars & Saturn in the Southern Hemisphere.

Thanks Ray, yep, seems like a couple of reasonable nights coming over the next week.

Thanks Lester, a lot happening for sure in the GRS region but to resolve it at this sort of alt will require s lot better seeing than I had for this.

Hi Mark, I have a FW Flea3 & GigE Flea3 which have served me well and more recently a ZWO ASI120MM. I think at the moment the best way to go regarding a new mono camera is clearly the ASI120MM. The rate at which gains are being made with CMOS technology has clearly brought them to the point where they can compete very well with CCD cameras. The ASI is more sensitive in the G & B and seems to perform well in IR although the performance curves that I have seen would imply that the Flea3 should be better in IR. The reality seems to contradict this as I am running at much higher frame rates even in IR than I could with the Flea3. NOTE that my comparisons are with the ASI imaging train setup to deliver the same plate scale as I was getting with my Flea3 so is an apples v apples comparison.
