Nearmap or Alternative?

The Maintenance Manager at my Son's primary school asked if I had access to Nearmap (I don't). They are wanting to get an up-to-date aerial image of the school to assist with their future works planning.

I was told that the services offered by Google are not current or accurate enough.

Has anyone on IIS used Nearmap's services or could suggest a suitable alternative?

The lower the cost the better . . . . (read as no cost).

Stu, the local council may have aerial photos that they can access for free. What size does the print need to be?

Thanks Rusty,

Local Council - Good idea. The only catch is how current their maps are? I will check it out tomorrow.

They are in the earliest stages of planning new building works and probably want to start marking out ideas on an in-house plan. I guess to make the plan useable, the school boundaries will need to fill an A1 sheet at a suitable scale.

Stu.

Down here in NSW the Lands department have an online service called "Six" it is slightly more up to date than google (which by the way Goolge Earth is generally art least three years out of date and only accurate to about half a metre, when you overlay other data such as plot boundaries).

Near maps unfortunately is very expensive and only tends to cover built up out suburb areas. I have been looking for reasonable priced up to date stuff for years for business and have not found any, we simply make do with Google Earth and accept the limitations.

Thanks for the feedback Roger,

I assume cost is the reason for the Maintenance Manager asking if I had access to the Near maps. I don't, but offered to try IIS to get some ideas from forum members. I think the school is in the earliest in-house stages of putting future building works ideas to paper.

Regards,
Stu.

Hi Stu,

I have access to NearMAPS and can take a screen grab for you if you like.
Would that be suitable?

Cheers,
Dan

A big Thank You to all who offered to assist, especially Russ and Dan. I have been in touch with the Maintenance Manager and the information provided is spot on. It looks like the school has all it needs to lay down some preliminary planning. I made sure he is aware that it was IIS forum members who were able to assist.

Regards,
Stu.
