1st set of Astro Photos :D

Hi all, I recently acquired a 254mm x 1200mm Reflector on an EQ6 mount a couple of days ago. Never had anything like this before but a couple of hours studying up on polar alignment videos and with some help from a friend I think I kinda know what im doin now lol

I'm using a Canon 450D DSLR and had problems with blurry images when pressing the shutter down so I made up a little remote shutter button which helped SO MUCH!

Finally got some images together tonight and was really happy with the results.

The Trifid Nebula on the bottom left took me the longest. It was my 1st attempt at using dark, bias, flat and light pictures... cant wait to try this with the Orion Nebula!

The moon was stacked with 7 photos and sharpened up in photoshop.

The rest of the photos are just a single frame crudely post processed in photoshop.

Thanks for looking!

I really like the layout of this, it reminds me of a poster I used to have on my wall as a kid.

I use the mirror lock-up and self timer to fix this although it does limit you to 30sec exposures , nice pics by the way

Nice results and you sound pretty chuffed. Rightfully so too, they are very encouraging firsts.
Look forward to seeing more in future.

Nice shots and great idea doing the collage. I got a wireless remote control for my 450d canon online for $12 with free postage. Its 100% over a wired remote. Astrophotography is not hard but every little bit makes the result that little bit better. Its very rewarding when you get a nice image.

I'd be printing that one out and hanging it in the pool room.

Hey thanks alot for the replies, really appreciate the feedback!

I've now replaced the shutter button with my netbook + BackyardEOS to control my camera, its fantastic... Just setup my 25 shots and let her rip.
Once I get it aligned I want to try some 120second+ photos.
Still cant quite get my alignment spot on but its getting better every night. Well the wind was blowing really hard last night here in Brisbane and was screwing with my rig
So tonight might be the night

I was going to print it out but id get in trouble for sure for using up all the ink, I might just do it on the sly later on lol
