Meade SCT OTA, 80mm achro & bits'n'pieces. Or do you have a fork mount, or other EQ?

Hello all,

I need to sadly find new homes for some of my precious scopes and some odds and ends.

* Meade 2080B SCT OTA. Bit of a blast from the past. This is the first Meade SCT presented on a GEM. This scope is in OK condition, the UHTC has started to deteriorate and is a little patchy, but the image it throws up is still fantastic. The mirrors are still in pristine condition with next to no dust on the primary. The OTA comes with its original dovetail plate, and the original finder mounting frame (no finder came with it), and I can add a Celestron 1.25" visual back if required (not pictured). The scope comes in an older leather stiff leather case that is well padded. This SCT can be mounted onto a Meade set of forks as the mounting screws are on the OTA. SOLD.

Yes, this is the 2080 I've been chasing for so long and finally found. I mounted it once onto the Meade set of forks I have and am most impressed with the image quality it gave. I'm only selling it as it has finally dawned on me that as I already have an older Celestron C8, I just found needing to dismount the Meade SCT to replace the video rig, and vice versa, it is just too tedious a task to be doing constantly. I actually have no ultimate preference between either this Meade or the orange tube C8 - the Meade might, just might have an edge over the old C8, but it is only because the Meade forks I have is also my video rig that I am letting go of this lovely old blue girl, .

* 80mm f/5 achromat with a 2" GSO refractor Crayford focuser and a 1.25" reducing bushing. Its lens is a Surplus Shed coated lens in a cell set into PVC tubing, and a long PVC dew shield. This little scope also comes with a clamshell clamp and a short dovetail plate. The lens is in excellent condition. This scope has given me fantastic widefield views with the 2" focuser. SOLD

* Polar alignment scope for an EQ5 in excellent condition. SOLD

* 32mm Bintel plossl eyepiece in very good condition. Comes with two lens caps. SOLD.

Thank you for looking.

EDIT: Maybe you have a Meade or Celestron set of 8" forks that needs a new home - see post No. 3 in this ad thread.

Do you have an 8" fork mount?

As an alternative to selling the OTA, would anyone have a set of 8" SCT forks that is no longer being used? For my purposes, it can be either a Meade or Celestron set. All I require of the mount is that at least the RA drive is working. Age of the fork mount isn't a concern as long as the RA drive works. It will be use for visual and video, so a standard drive is OK. A more spiffy mount configuration is fine too.

A wedge &/or tripod isn't mandatory, but attractive all the same.

Let me know what you have.

Mental.

Alex I spied a pair of C8 fork arms on CN, the snag being it was just the arms, the rest in the middle was missing (makes you wonder what they did with it).

Anyone have a fork mount they are not using? The way Meade makes its SCT's, the 8" can fit any 8" set of forks, be it their original 2080, to their LX200. The Celestron fork won't mate to the Meade SCT. I'd be use it as my video rig & mount the scope to the 8" Meade fork I have that I'm using as my current video rig. Just need the fork mount if that is all you have - I can deal with the wedge & tripod.

But, the scope is also still for sale, & open to offers. Optically it is still very good. The coatings while not 100%, doesn't mean you are looking through a brick. My orange tube C8 doesn't have coatings at all, and still punches very well for her age. I only use my C8 for the Moon & planets, & this Meade also excells there too. No slouch with DSO's either.

I find a buyer, the Meade's got a new home. I find a fork mount, I keep her. One way or another, she's put back into service,

Wavy, thanks mate. Yeah, saw them. Sorta missing the motor bit, eh (WTF!!) . SteveInNZ offered me his 2080 fork, wedge & tripod. It's an AC drive, but configured for our southern sky. Only problem is it's in NZ, & can't find a reasonably priced freight service.

Price drop & item sold

Polar scope sold.

Price drop on SCT - $370

Plossl EP - $20 posted

Mount wise, I am happy to consider an EQ5, or an LXD55, or an LXD75. Prefer Sydney pick up.

I'm really unfamiliar with Meade SCTs so please pardon my ignorance but is there any reason I couldn't pop this on my EQ6 and use it for planetary imaging?

No reason at all why it shouldn't.

Sorry Alex, I have someone else interested in my C8 mount, so it is at least temporarily unavailable
