Best sites for hosting large images?

Hi,

I'm currently doing a mosaic of the SMC, and will probably end up with 20 or more panels.

The image so far looks great in higher res on my computer and I'd like to share it in high res.

There's so much to look at!

Any suggestions appreciated.

Cheers,

Justin.

Smug mug is pretty good. Although you could get your own site via web hosting.

I use Flickr and Wordpress. Wordpress is easy and you can upload images whatever size you want, same with Flickr. I like Astrobin too.

Depends what you want - a preformatted image hosting site or your own space?

I use Dreamhost http://www.dreamhost.com

My webhosting package is $110 per year. For that I get 1 domain registration fee included, 450GB + unlimited server space, option to register multiple domains at $10 per year ea, I can authorize multiple users etc etc. I find it particularly useful when working on projects with large videos with collaborators. I can create an ftp archive that we can both access where we can upload / download very large video files.

Thats not bad but hows there downtime ect? Was with webcity for yrs but they have gone to hell now, was rich at the time but 4 mysql databases rocked hard, up time was 100% and bandwidth was mind blowing use to host our call of duty maps on it which made it pay for itself in no time.

2stroke,
I've been with them 3 years. In that time, they've had just one cyber attack, last year. Rather than try to cover it up, they immediately locked down the system, reset all passwords and informed all hosting administrators. Apart from that, I haven't noticed any downtime. I'm sure there must be some but nothing significant and nothing reported to me by users. I've had no issues with my specific server space. The only times i've had to ask for support was when I needed to ask how to do something. On these occasions, support was quick and really helpful.

Dreamhost are quite big with server farms on both east and west coasts of USA. That results in slightly slower access for Australian users and slower upload for me. I get around 4000 page downloads per day with the majority of my readers located in USA and Europe so it works ok for me. But when I say slow it's still lightning fast compared to some free servers I've used in the past.

Before that I was with a company called CBIT. They charged top dollar and gave really poor service and poor value for money. They get my strongest "avoid at all costs" advice.
Joe
