DIY EQ6 half pillar extension

Purchased a pillar extension but didn't like it as it had to be a permanent fix to the mount and I wanted it to be mounted to the tripod, so I made my own.

First I machined up a base that mounted to the tripod.

Then cut and mounted a SS tube to it with 3 bolts.

Then machined a top plate and tig welded it to the SS tube

Then made a long threaded bolt to hold it all together.

Now I can tilt my scope vertical without it going anywhere near the tripod legs.

Ha!!! actually I would like to make these and things that are a bit better than a commercially made item but I have to work for a living and that interferes with a good lifestyle.
How often do you see something and think why didn't they do it this or that way which would be better.

That's very nice work, have been thinking of doing the same thing but out of aluminium, though my TIG skills leave a lot to be desired.
Maybe just drill & tap & screw everything together.
