A quick triffid

I finally managed to set up the other day

Here's a triffid I'm still trying to figure out how to process this - the colours still look a bit off and the blue channel seemed strong when processing

L - 15 minutes (10 x 30 seconds, 10 x 60)
Ha (R) 16 minutes (2x 5 minutes, 5 x 2 minutes)
O2 (B) 10 minutes (5x 2 minutes)
G filter 10 minutes (5x 2 minutes)

SX H694 on f 2.8 8" powernewt - mount cgem dx

Location - Central Auckland CBD

Clouds ruined the session so I rushed - not much time for gathering data

comments or tips on processing welcomed - I was using Startools

This is a very well known object.

A Google search will reveal many examples.

Rob, sorry it's not the Triffid (M20) you've imaged, it's the Lagoon (M8).

Your effort has the highlights burnt out, noisy shadows and the colour is frankly way off.

That said, I suspect the raw data is pretty good, and some more time with Startools or Photoshop will reveal a good rendition.

Stick with it

When I was doing M8, I used this image from the ESO to help me with colours, shadows etc:

I have no idea why I called it the Triffid

I wasn't happy with how the image turned out - as you say more time processing - and that helpful reference image should produce much better results

Thanks

Rob,
First of all, you’ve captured fantastic amount of data.
Second, your image is not RGB ..
L - 15 minutes (10 x 30 seconds, 10 x 60)
Ha (R) 16 minutes (2x 5 minutes, 5 x 2 minutes)
O2 (B) 10 minutes (5x 2 minutes)
G filter 10 minutes (5x 2 minutes)

So, the colour pallet is your personal choice as you are the painter.
