Setting up a battery system?

Hi,

I am going camping to Kenilworth Homestead for two nights and run from my 240V system at home the Canon 60 Da, Powered USB hub, Computer, and the EQ6Pro mount. Four powerpoint requirements.

What would I need to by so I could run completely 240V free? I would want two nights continual use as I have no charging facility.

Basically you work out what will run off 12v directly, look at what amps they draw. If you have to run 240v you need an inverter, these are only about 80% efficient. Add up all the amps, multiply by the number of hours you are going to run for and that's your amp-hours, which is your battery capacity. You can't completely drain the battery so probably double it and you will get somewhere near what you need in battery capacity.

Have a look on the caravan sites and you will find a number of books on designing these sort of systems.

It also depends on how much slewing you do, but
I'd go with a 100Ah deep cycle Marine battery, and power everything you can off 12v.

Run the usb hub off a jacar dc to dc converter ( http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA0218 )
If the laptop can be charged off 12v do so. Restrict using an inverter to the smallest necessary then use a pure sine wave.

I've modified a jacar dc-dc converter to supply more current for the 9v for the Canon EOS.
Monitor the battery voltage with a plug in voltmeter

and start charging it via the car if it drops below 12.0v
