Announcement: IceInSpace Outage and Data Loss
Hi all
Most of you may have been aware that IceInSpace has been offline for most of today, since about midnight last night.
We had a hard drive failure in our server at the data centre, and the server had to be rebuilt and restored from backup.
Unfortunately the latest backup we could restore from was from 4am Wednesday, 14th August. Which means that any posts from Wednesday 4am until the time the server went offline (midnight Wednesday) have been lost.
Apologies for the inconvenience and thanks for your patience. Thanks also to Terry who worked tirelessly to get the server back online.

Thanks for the heads up Mike, and thanks to Terry and the tireless helpers who keep the site up and running.
Cheers

You and Terry do an amazing job in keeping this site running.
Thank you to both of you for all the tireless work you do and for getting us back on line so quickly.
Phew, I was very nervous- I was thinking I may lose my posts-the ones I put a link to (those long ones lol) that I'd worked so hard on, for helping beginners. Double phew, I can tell you!

Ahh, that explains it. When the site came back up, I thought I could smell that "new disk" smell.

Well Done Mike and Terry. Disk failure happen so infrequently that we forget that they have a life span. They work hard, spin fast and in this setting are often 'on' 24/7. That's why the gods recommend regular back ups. Of course, even with a good BU schedule u lose data [but apparently not Suzy's - for which we are all eternally grateful ;-) ]
Anyhoo, Well done, glad to see it all up and running.

Great job guys with the recovery.
Many thanks for all your efforts.
It must have been a funny day yesterday as all us tragics went on about our business without the morning fix of IIS.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.
A few people have asked about PM's etc.
Sorry but any PM's you sent or received on Wednesday are also gone (on both sides). You will need to re-contact the person who you sent or received PM's from.
