NGC6559 with dragon

SPX350 F4.5, ST10XME, Astrodon filters Ha5nm RGB.

Always wanted to try Lagoons neighbour a reasonably bright nebula with dark dust lane. I kept seeing it on ccdcalc over the years and finally got round to getting it.

It contains within it a dark nebula Barnard 303 which looks like a dragon/sea creature as well as a curiously small Ha concentration at the very bottom middle catalogued as GN18.06.6.01. Reflection nebula quite difficult to get to extend well so may try binning blue for the next faint reflection nebula. Bloom spikes were easy enough to remove.

Thanks for looking, John.

lovely images of a very interesting region John.

If of any interest, the object identified in many places as GN18.06.6.01 is likely to be a planetary nebula, M 1-41 - your image of it shows some very fine detail http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...d.php?t=110261

How did you handle the blooming? - worked well whatever you did
regards Ray

One of my favourite areas nicely done, thanks John! There's just so much interesting stuff in one spot.

If that's not a star cruiser from the Imperial Zonzo fleet you've captured there.. I'll eat my hat

That river like dust lane is very cool

Thanks for clearing up strange referenced GN blob, it seems that PN's can have some obscure catalogue references.

I used MaximDL on the subs and will give Wodaski's Debloomer a go on very bad bloomed images as Maxim can be a little strong according to some.

Thanks for the comments, there are certainly many strange shapes in this region.

John.

I read of a technique using 90degree rotation for half of the subs to get rid of blooming, but that seemed a pain to do. I do not see any artefacts from Maxim.

M 1-41 is from the first Minkowski catalogue. Really good summary of PNs here if of any interest. http://www.blackskies.org/SEC_data00.htm

Really excellent work John; I just love these unusual and varied objects you hunt down and how well you capture and present the superb results.

Cheers

Very nice work John. Your images often make me wonder how valid the theory is of 1/4 wave being the limit for resolution. Your mirror as I recall is figured to 1/10th wave.
