M8 Lagoon

M8 The Lagoon Nebula. Also in this image are the M20 Trifid Nebula at bottom right and NGC 6544 globular cluster top and slightly left of centre. 74x 30-second images, taken with a Canon 300D on an AT65-EDQ scope mounted on a Skywatcher HEQ5. Corrected with 22 dark images, no flats or bias images.

Finally an image of my own to show - hope you like it! The focus wasn't quite right, but it was close. Polar alignment was from just two imaging drift alignments and good enough 30 seconds. The light pollution in my backyard is shocking, so was very happy with just a mild blue gradient that I removed manually.

Looks good! What ISO were you using? The reason I ask is because I was out last night taking a photo of the same thing! You can see mine here:

But yours seems to show a lot more nebulosity, maybe its because yours is not as zoomed in as mine.

Thanks!

I should have said that mine is ISO 200. It's the sweet spot for the 300D in terms of dynamic range, though I really needed longer subs. I captured a lot more light than you did, so that obviously helps me pull out more faint stuff.

I'm very impressed with what you and others are able to capture with driven Dobsonians.

Cheers,
Cam
