Bintel Chair

Hi guys,

Anyone have any experience with the "Bintel Stellar Seat"?

Until now I've been using a stool and either stretching or hunching as required, I'm going into the store this week to grab a few things and was considering the chair as well in an effort to save my back.

Cheers for any input!

Agree with all above.
It is really worth the investment.

ALSO
invest in a strip of (red) reflective tape.
Those black seats are sturdy, but a bit painful when you bump into them in the dark.

That's a good point, Allan... might have finally found a use for those reflective "glow" belts that work keeps on giving me!

I have had one for about a year, get quite a lot of use both inside and out under the stars. Has worked really well so far, welds seem to be holding up and I am not very light weight

Well worth it.

Does anyone know if the Skywatcher ones are better/worse than the ones at Bintel ? A few dollars cheaper if there isn't much in it.

I bought a Skywatcher seat originally - it only lasted about 4 sessions before warping and slipping. I accidentally sat down a little too hard (seat was lower than I thought) and bent the brackets. In retrospect, the design isn't very robust.... interestingly, the product photo hides the weak points of the design.

I subsequently picked up a pre-loved Bintel seat from the classifieds here. I can highly recommend it Its design is much, much better than the Skywatcher seat, and it folds flat within seconds. I also use it for non-astro purposes as a versatile variable-height bench.

Enjoy!

Bought a Bintel one about 3 years ago. Simply a great investment. Well made, sturdy, folds up nicely and a pleasure to use.

I have the Bintel one as well, and love it. My only complaint – initially – was the fiddling necessary to adjust the seat to a different height, and the noise that makes in the dead of night. But over the months I've been getting much better at it.

It is truly an essential accessory IMO, you see so much more when you're sitting comfortably at the eyepiece.

Cheers
Steffen.

Just purchased mine today from Bintel, and a 17.3 Delos, and canon t-ring. Im in love,
happy, and recalcitrant no longer.
PS: And all it took was a chair !

These chairs are too expensive IMO. An adjustable height hydraulic stool is half to 1/3rd the price and can do exactly what these "astro" chairs do. They also have wheels if you so desire to install them. The only real advantage I can see is that they fold flat for storage or transport.

$179 for an adjustable height chair.... damn.

I made my own version many years ago.
Cost about $90.00 for all the bits.
