Prominence Lift Off 31/07/13

I was able to image the sun briefly this afternoon between the clouds and was able to capture a prominence lifting off.

The image was take with the Tak FS-102 fitted with a Coronado SM40 + BF30 filter, due to clouds only 300 frames per capture were taken and 50% used. Both the surface detail and the prominences were composed of 2 frames each to form the mosaic.

Here is the prominence lifting off the sun's surface in "negative". I think that this show the detail better, note the filaments on the sun's surface look 3-D like.

Thank you for your comments Mike/Derek. This was the first time that I had shot such a low number of frames (300 frames per capture). I supposed I was saved by a short stint of good seeing between the clouds.

Hi George
Great capture - the proms are always exciting when they lift!
The inverted image looks sweet too!

Hi Matt, I too like the inverted image, it seem to show more detail.

George when the clouds are out I often shoot several short avis to capture whats going on rather than worry about the end result. Especially in the case of todays prom its always good to have a record.
