Bartel GOTO system + motors + gearboxes

Commercially built and tested Bartel GOTO system, full electronics including provision for either focusser or field rotation, cables ( can include 386 laptop if required) comes with two LARGE 1.8deg stepper motors and also have two brand new 60:1 worm gearboxes. Everything you need to convert a Dobbie to GOTO or any other large mounting. Full docs with Bartel. Asking for $600 ONO for the lot. Will consider splitting.

Hi Merlin,

It sounds pretty interesting. If it means a dob can track and go-to, that's the stuff I'm interested in. Just how much DIY is needed. I'm ok with most stuff but the electronics isn't really my bag. I assume by your message that a computer is required. Pardon my ignorance on the technical side.

The Bartel electronics are complete, no need for soldering irons!! Bartel works as the interface between the motors and a computer running windows 3.1 or Dos 6.4. Uses the parallel port for connection. The computer gives the display of telescope position, tracking and motor control. There's also a handlepaddle to allow easy postioning. Fully supported by users group and many upgrades and databases available. It can also interface with digital setting circles for additional accuracy.

You'd need to figure out the connections from the motors/ gearboxes to the Alt/ Az parts of your mount. Bartel's website gives plenty of ideas and options regards gear ratios and drive configurations. Can give tracking at sub -arc second accuracy. Comes with original documentation and all necessary cables etc.

I got my dob driver II for $600 2nd hand. I believe this to be a better system than the dob driver. I personally believe this to be excellent value.

Gearbox details

The worm gearboxes are brand new never used. They are imported from Italy from Motovario part# NRV#030 ( I got mine from CBC Bearings in Melbourne) cost $160 each!
Aluminium cast body about 75 x 75 x 60 with a 8mm shaft output; 60:1 ratio
Full ball bearings and as smooth as velvet!
Was about to use them on the 445mm scope with a final ratio of 20:1 to give an ideal Bartel microstep of less than 0.5 sec arc.
Can post photo at weekend.

Gearboxes

The input shaft is 9mm x 20mm long; the output is a hollow shaft 14mm diameter and 30mm between centres. Also show the stepper motors available.
