It's cloudy again and the footy doesn't start for an hour. So decided to use my brand new Hotech collimator on my recently purchased second hand Skywatcher 12" dobby.
I checked all the usual things people suggest - rotated the collimator in the eyepiece and made sure there was no play. An initial inspection revealed the scope to be well out. The red dot was about one and a half centimetres from the centre of the primary, and the red spot in the target of the collimator was, well, not even IN the target at all.
The whole process didn't take long - perhaps 10 minutes - and I have to say it was actually pretty easy and painless. The only minor hassle I had was finding an Allen key the correct size to adjust the secondary.
So any other collimation virgins like me out there should give it a go. It really was pretty simple!
