I get easily distracted by new projects and lack of time, so there's usually lots of old unprocessed data lying around. Digging back through the archives tonight found this M61 data from 10 Chain Hill shot 19/5/12 using the QHY9 and 8" Newt/MPCC. Lots of hardware troubles on the night and I wouldn't have got anything if Geoff hadn't loaned my an EQDIR module as I recall.
RGB with synthetic Lum 40:53:60 (300 and 400sec subs, unbinned)
Was going to bury this in my vault but can't see too many M61s posted with the exception of a super Martin Pugh effort, so excuse noise/clipping/reflections and any other excuses for less than perfection.
Thought its a nice field in the end.
LOL. Nice one Robin. I was surprised at the bright star striping, poor flat fielding, and general noise for something shot from 10 Chain. Not a lot of data I guess. Its a miracle - no reflection any more. I like what you've done with the black point too. I was trying to be honest with the data, but like your rendering more. What rates do you charge for processing!?

Thanks Geoff - that was almost my ultimate failure in the field - was very close to just driving home at 10pm as I recall. That's about 3 times you've saved me now if you include adaptors at AF and covering my gear in the storm

Nice one, Rob. I wouldn't talk it down, its a fine image in its own right. What perhaps drew my attention was not the primary focus of M61 but the background galaxies. They look great and add an extra dimension. Always a surprise to find unprocessed data and you've put it to good use. Well done.

Thanks for the encouragement Jase - wishing I'd got a bit more data if things had clicked on the night, but its a never ending source of amusement the crazy things that happen at a dark sky site "in the field"

Cheers Dave - I must admit I'm more inclined to give myself an extra day after an extended field trip now to start tackling the processing. Actually I'm out tonight trying for "mini mega" data on NGC 6188 after depressing cloud in recent weeks. Take what you can get!

Always something to learn. I find its often hard to reproduce the full processing chain on an image - always a bit of art AND science in there!
Hey Ross, this is a pretty good image, I really like the composition and as Jase says the extra galaxies make it a cool looking pictuire. If you could re-do and/or clean it up a bit it would be a fine image!
