Triffid from the Burbs

Haven't pulled out the RGB filters in almost 12 months.
But M20 is up and I could not resist it, I love it.

16 x 400 sec Lum bin x 1, 6 x 120 sec RGB bin x2

12" GSO newt, atik 11000.

Yes it was covered in gradients etc, I hammered it flat ...

Nice one Robin. Up there with my fav's too. Glad to see some more from the 12 - was wondering how it was going. Should be very happy cruising on the EQ8 too!

Some lovely colours there Robin, a fine Trifid and you look to have handled the gradients well

I was having power and usb issues which where a real pain to pin down Rob, but it looks like I got all the gremlins out. Next mountain to climb is squeezing it all in the Golf for astrofest and making it go again when I get there

Lost some of the blue nebula Mike, but that's the price you pay I guess.

Cheers Ray. It seems to work ok but the corrector ended up costing more than the scope

After getting eqmod going, it was almost a straight swap from the eq6 Geoff. Seems to do what I want it to

Nice round stars Robin. How did the EQ8 guide? Thoughts?

The colour is ok but the image is a bit clipped. Plenty more data in there.

Cheers guys, I try and snap the old triffid every year, I like the colours I guess.

This would be normal guiding for me Paul. That's with an OAG at about 1.2meters with the qhy5LII, so tiny pixels. 2sec exposures seems to work best. I didn't want to push the image too hard or the gradients would come back Focus is the real issue with the steel tubed newt. You really need to watch it as it shifts a fair bit during the night.

Yeah, I got a motor, bracket and coupler to go on it but have been spending way too much time playing with this thing

How does the image look in full res, Robin? Did you pick up the stellar jets?

Look forward to seeing all these EQ8s in action at Astrofest

I managed to catch a couple of hours of clearish skies last night to test my final setup for Astrofest. Now it's guaranteed to work perfectly on the first night

Cheers,
Rick.

Didn't bother looking Rick but I did find my usb issues. The qhy5 would randomly switch to a boxed crosshatched pattern. I installed all new cables, didn't fix it. Finally found it didn't like my 4 port pci usb card in the pc? Plug it into one of the on board pc ports and it's fixed. go figure ...

I better get things setup on a tripod and laptop myself. Haven't done that with this combo yet.
