TV ad for The Ghan

Anyone seen the new ad? What the hell? Are we supposed to understand what the Aboriginal guy and the guy on the train are saying?

It just seems like a mess to me. Can't think who it's supposed to appeal to.

Have seen it several times now and still makes no sense.

Well, you're talking about it so they're doing something right. Perhaps there will be more content in subsequent ads? I haven't seen it and I doubt I will unless it's on during the Lions test.

I have seen an ad for the Ghan advertising a discounted trip from Darwin to Alice springs. Is this the one? They don't say how much it costs to go the other way.

I would love to do the trip on the Ghan from Sydney to Darwin and back but I think three weeks in London is cheaper.

It's not about the words spoken. It's about the fusion of sounds and images. Remember the trippy days of music when we had Pink Floyd doing things like this - and we loved it. Remember "Several species of small furry animals grooving together in a cave with a pict"? It was just bird noises over a track of some crazy celt shouting into the wind. And it was music. And it worked. Same thing.

Maybe you're right. Cos only people old enough to remember the Floyd can afford to go on the Ghan!

Now, now. Be nice to your elders - or we may get like China and mandate regular visits and singalongs of all the old Moody Blues favourites.

I've been thinking the same. Maybe it's pitched at - hmm, .

Like the new Barossa Valley ad. It's a bit bizarre, and airy-fairy at the same time, IMO. A bit like the Melbourne tourism ads. Not my cup of tea, but I'm sure someone likes them.

The fact it has caused so much "fuss" here is an indication of how effective it has been.

The comments on YouTube mention POGO - a remix artist. No idea who he is, but I'm guessing his target demographic and the Ghan's don't overlap much.

Thanks for the reminder Colin, haven't listened to Jethro Tull in years, Hmm have to dig out Stormwatch, it was their best album, in my view anyway.
