M8 Lagoon Nebula

This is my first successful attempt at astrophotography.
Equipment:
- Skywatcher 10 inch synscan goto dob
- Nikon D7000
Light Frames:
- 15 x 25 seconds
- 1250 ISO
- White balance: daylight

I'm aware that is out of collimation around the edges, thats because I had to retract the dob a bit so it would focus (its a collapsable dob.)

Much better than my first lagoon! You've done well, and not burned out the core at all.... Looks like you have some coma there - are you using a coma corrector??

Thanks. Nah there's no coma corrector but the collimation and alignment was a bit out, I don't think I retracted it evenly.

nice work Joel,

having done a bit of deep sky stuff on my goto dob, id suggest upping the iso to 1600-3200 and shortening the subs to 20secs.

great start, looking forward to seeing more!

cheers,

rusty

Hey Joel,

Good work, my first attempt at the lagoon looked like this.
So I decided to push it further. I can't remeber the exact details
but I did something around 15 sec exposures x 180 photos with
dark/bias frames at 6400 iso. so got the same setup I have a 10inch dobsonian With a goto. Try the lagoon again & also try the Carina Nebula (NGC 3372). You'll get amazing results
