Ron Wodaski - opening fits files

Hello,

I have downloaded the latest version of fits liberator and run it, but I want to practice some of the processing tips in the Zone System but I can not open the Fits image in photoshop. I can open the image in fits liberator but when I try to open in photoshop I get a statement saying "wrong type of file or something like that". I am using PS CS5.1 I have tried to convert them from fits to tiff files in IrfanView but no go.

Suggestions please.

Mark

I'm not terribly familiar with FITS Liberator, but I did read a while back that v3 is now a standalone app, not a Photoshop plugin - so you can't use the latest version to load a FITS file in PS. You could dig up an older version or maybe you could convert to a TIFF file in FITS Liberator itself?

Cheers,
Rick.

Liberator is indeed stand alone, and PS won't recognise FITS.

If you want to manipulate FITS, load them into DSS. Stack them, then save the result as a 16 bit or 32 bit TIFF. Works perfectly. Even a pretend stack of 1 file WILL work - DSS won't do much, buit run through it's processes Just leave out darks, lights, bias etc.

There is a FITS plugin for Photoshop, but the price is NOT pretty!!!

Mark, are you going to the Imaging Conference?
I agree with what Lewis says, use DSS to convert it for you.
