The Dragons Egg in Norma - Natural Colour Version added

I managed to get more data on the lovely planetary in Norma NGC 6164

This is the first full image taken from the new Wallaroo Observatory. The conditions were ok, seeing was not too bad but not as good as last weekend when I only got 20min Ha before clouds rolled in Inside the observatory there was NO WIND (well there was very little outside anyway but there was certainly NONE inside the dome )

This is an Ha OIII RGB blend (details under the image)

The Dragons Egg

and a 100% res Close Up

and a wider view

Natural Colour versions added:

Here I have blended the narrowband and RGB data to create a more natural colour palette

NGC 6164/5 and faint outer halo

Close up of the inner hourglass ring

Wider view

Wow - some great psychedelic colours going on there, Mike It does look like what I imagine a dragon's egg to look like...

Nice image with interesting colours Mike and good to see you in an observatory. Two little bits of nitpicking though:

It's actually NGC 6164 and NGC 6165 each being the two little bits of nebulosity on either side of the star. Often just called NGC 6164/65. It's also not a planetary but an outburst from a Wolf Rayet star.

Cheers

Steve

Cheers for looking guys...I gather the colour palette raised a few eyebrows?

I used the same (well similar) palette processing as my 2011 Fighting Dragons of Ara image...but I am working on a more traditional looking version now, so stay tuned for a Sidonio

Nice rendition Mike. Really nice.
Is that yellow/tan on the widefield image the start of the SII areas showing?

Your field of view is perfect for this object and the colours make this egg really stand out. I am seriously thinking of an Obsy, breezy every day of late in SE QLD.

Agghhh. That must be why it said it was a HaOIII RGB blend!

Like the natural colour blends!

Natural color version is the one of my choice Didn't like the psychedelic version of narrow palette, even if I am perhaps too traditional

Nice image Mike, I never stop to surprise how much light you are able to collect with relatively short exposures, it makes my refractor looks like a bottle bottom

Regards
Marco

Cheers Marco, Although I like the Fighting Dragons palette version, I think I too like the more natural colour palette It came out better than I thought it would considering the very small amount of RGB data I grabbed

Like the natural version a lot Mike!

Very easy on the eye and detail seems to stand out more.

Cheers,

Justin.
