the full image is a 2x2 software bin of the original (slight crop). The full res version is a crop of the central region - wanted to show the pillars and the equally intriguing structure alongside. Might need to click on the image to get full resolution.

These images are at quite low resolution, by any chance, could you share higher res image (eaglefull)?
thanks Ian. These are as big as posting rules allow - will have to get an account at an image sharing site I guess. The close up crop is full resolution - native pixel scale is 1.17 arc sec. At least I hope that is how it ended up in the post.
Nice images! Pretty good detail in the structures. Im also working on an eagle image but the 2 weeks of rain haven't helped!

thanks Erik. Weather seems to be particularly bad this year. I am currently trying to fully understand the capability/limitations of my imaging system, so look forward to your M16 image for comparison.

thanks Marc. this is a "must image" for any new system I guess - it sure is a spectacular object, even at this resolution. Just read on the net that it was probably destroyed by a SN shock wave about 5000 years ago, but the light showing its destruction will not get here for another 1000 years or so. Bit sad to think that it is already gone - nothing lasts forever...

Maybe the SN shock wave will just reshape it into something better.....

yeah, the small pixels really show up any misalignment/tracking issues. good luck anyway.

thanks Lee. messes you up when a camera goes down doesn't it - just have to wait for it to be fixed overseas. looking forward to your images.

thank you Ross. It was great fun to see the detail appearing in the subs - seeing was only OK at about 3 arcsec, so it was nice to be able to extract some finer stuff.

thanks Bob. took a while to sort it out, but the little scope is working fairly well now. eventual goal is a 10 or 12 inch ( still to decide), but the 8 inch is turning out to be quite well matched to the camera for the seeing I get around here. I haven't quite built up enough enthusiasm yet to try to tame another GSO Newtonian .. Next step will be a better mount.

Got everything talking this afternoon on the dinning table (H694, Loadstar, USB filterwheel, FS2 mount control) all worked first time no hic ups (touch wood) quite a few cables though Now to take the FLI gear off and reconfigure, rebalance etc...first light shouldn't be too far away
...I will make the move soon...promise
