Ngc6164/5 now with more Ha

A blend of Ha and OIII captured last night 6x10 min each and composed as a RGB with a synthetic green channel made from the Ha (R) and OIII (B) data.
Stacked with DSS and processed in PS3. Probably (obviously) needs more data to bring out the fainter rings around this nebula but the lack of dark skies really hampers an object such as this. The Ha data reveals a lot more data than the OIII data as seen in the attached image.
Captured with GSO 10" RC and QSI583 with Astronomic filters
Coments welcomed.

Added another two hours of 10 min subs to the Ha data and now the faint stuff is coming out at last.

That's an intriguing little object, Allan. A bit more data will help with that faint outer shell even in the absence of dark skies. How narrow is your Ha filter?

Cheers,
Rick.

Tried to image this once before in RGB and failed dismally due to light pollution and so NB is my only choice but as you point out the Astronomik filter is a 12mm and I think that to do this object from polluted skies you need a max of 3mm filters.
Will try to get some more data but a 20 min sub didn't bring out any more detail, so it looks like I will have to get more subs to smooth everything out and bring out the faint stuff. Thank heavens for plate solving in SGPro as I was able to do an automatic meridian flip and it put the target back within 10 pixels on the chip.

Allan,

I'm using 5nm filters but just shelled out for a 3nm Ha and OIII. In 50mm square format they are bl**dy expensive! At least I'm saving on shipping by picking them up on my next business trip to the US

SGPro is certainly very capable and getting better all the time. I started using ACP before I had heard of it. At some stage I may have to consider switching. Plate solving is a godsend in any program. I don't know how I lived without it!

Cheers,
Rick.

The Ha is coming along nicely Allan. Perhaps some longer subs to get the outer shell?

That's what I'm doing tonight but had an ASCOM brain f@rt where it said two instances of Gemini were running which knocked out SGPro until I did a system restore. If its not one thing it's another but I'm working now.

Are you saying SGPro may have an edge over ACP formidable powers even Rick?

At the rate they are developing SGP perhaps one day it will surpass ACP, Rob. More likely, it will push ACP and products like CCDAP to incorporate more features at lower prices and we'll all benefit! I do like the extensibility of ACP but SGP has a lot going for it if you don't want to script your own environment.

Cheers,
Rick.

thanks Dennis and it looks like I've managed to get another round of several hours of Ha data tonight to see if I can capture the faint Nebulosity surrounding NGC6164/5. I will have to process tomorrow

I quite like the ability to take Ha and OIII and make a synthetic RGB out of it.

I would add my voice to Rick's comments. Now it has a series of objects that are inputted and plate solved each with either Elbrus or Astrotortilla on the fly and for free as well as a great new mosaic feature which is automatic, I've been completely rapt with it. Although I have ACP, SGPro beats it IMO.

That's a lot of TLAs but SGP does seem to be surpassing ACP

If you want to sell your 12nm to get a 7nm or 3nm, I'm looking for a 12

The mono images look great Allan. I found with narrowband it takes a bit of fiddling to get what "you" want out of the image. Great detail.

Thanks for those kind comments Paul as they are appreciated.
I noticed that I was too interested in getting all the faint nebulosity ejected by this O type star that I overcooked the central portion and now I think Ive corrected this in the attached image - hope it makes a difference to the final tones.

The updated image looks very 3D Allan, the additional data and re-process makes it pop out of the screen. Top stuff!

Cheers
