Oil filter socket

Any of you guys know where I can get a socket in OZ for an oil filter model C-1032. (Sakura). It's interchangeable with Z79A, Z142A, etc... Mazda, Hyundai.

Found one on eBay (79mm). No unfortunately. It's an I20, Feb 2013 model. First 1000km oil change. You wouldn't believe where the bloody oil filter is. I can't even wrap my fingers around it.

It's the same type as all the old Hyundai and Mazda models which is alright. Just learning where things are on the new car. I don't know where the spark plugs access is yet. That's my next project.

Try a 2006 V5 Passat - realy awkward, odd space, but once you know where, it's easy (but the cover is plastic, and you nearly always booger it getting it off.

If its your first 1000km change, why are you doing it? I thought they were always free.

With new cars now, the 1000 or 1500 Km service seems to be just a check-no oil change until 10,000 or 15,000 Km. I don't like it, but that's how it is!

Nobody touches my cars. The only time I had to take the Accent to the Hyundai service center to change the immobiliser some young bloke managed to cross thread a spark plug in the block and broke the bakelite cover as well because he cross threaded that too, got the s||ts and pulled on it.

Nicolas's got my old Excel Sprint 97 model now. Rebuilt the engine, changed the bearings and sent the heads to be machined 6 months ago. She goes like a zyrtec. That's a 16yrs old car.

All I can do myself I try to do. Basic servicing is easy enough.

That's right. People don't realise that regular oil change is the life of your engine. Period.

5L of W20-50: $25-$30
1 oil filter: $5-$7
20min of your time every 5000km or 6 months whichever comes first.

You can buy oil filter remover from Wheels about $40. Or from ebay for $8 http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_t...at=0&_from=R40.
The one that can undo and do oil filters different sizes. It has 3 spokes that grabs filter on the side. It comes with either 3/8 or 1/2 inch plug on it so you can use ratchet and extension on it if you need it.

You most likely need 5-30 oil if its new or VVT engine. Some new engines use 0-40 synthetic only oil. 20-50 is for older engines, 95 and older.

Thanks Bob. Yeah I saw the 3 spoke one at autobarn this morning. It's self tightening. Problem is that it's only for unscrewing . You can't reverse it like you do with a ratchet and it would be pretty fiddly for me to align with an extension and the clearance I have under the car. In a perfect world I'd jack it up but we're talking about a quick driveway job here. I keep it simple.

The engine is basically the same they use in the older models. We're not talking high tech here. Basic 1.4L fuel injected. Few things done better, they turned it around as well so the exhaust manifods are at the back and don't face the radiator. Aircon pump as the front bottom left and they also swap the alternator to the top with the expansion tank under. 20-50 is good all round viscosity, cool and hot temperatures. I never use synthetic. Once you go this way you can't go back.

EDIT: VVT is variable valve timing correct?

The one on the picture is for undoing and doing as well, dual drive. I got it and use it all the time. It comes with 1/2 inch and 3/8 adapter.
