Oh wow!

Been AWFUL overcast here in QLD. Went to bed last night, over cast. Got up for a call of nature, and looked up. OH GAWD! If it was not 2am, I would have set up!

I have NEVER seen better seeing. Not a single star flicker! I could see a LOT of nebulosity naked eye, let alone finally seeing a vast galactic swathe for the first time from this location of light pollution. It was like being in the country! I could not believe it, so I grabbed the binos and stood there for the next 45 minutes.

Now, if it stays that way tonight, I will be cranking out the images.

Lucky bugg ers, I set up the digital setting circles and took the Tak out to cool down, then went out an hour later to find snow settling on the ota.

It's very clear in Sydney too and the forecast looks good but the jetstream is really strong. The only good night maybe Saturday. Fair bit of southerly surface wind as well and low temperature.

Just returned from Mt White and its blowing a gale (westerly). Clear yes, but the seeing will be atrocious.
