I was up near Cohuna by the Murray last w/e. It was freezing with frost on car and scope. I was wearing layer upon layer of warm clothing + cotton gloves; kept me warm enough. Awesome dark skies. Saw lots of galaxies, mostly in Virgo cluster, better than ever. You are lucky to have such great skies in your backyard Ken.
It was pretty good over here tonight. Great seeing between about 10:00 and 11:30. Then it took a bit of a dive but by then got some exceptional views of Jupiter.

The sky is magic here!
Problem is my EP almost instantly frosted up. Within about 20 seconds I couldn't see thru it, and I was breathing out fog like nobody's business!!! That's probably why there is more ice around the focuser than the rest of the scope. My breath!
Gonna go out with the Knockies soon coz the sky is so good I don't wanna waste it.

Geez that is cold there Ken, maybe you need to build a little shed just big enough for the scopes and you, to get out of the elements a bit.

I know what you mean Ken,
I was out lastnight and it was that cold that I was almost forced to put on some shoes.

Dress for last Saturday night's GAA club viewing night
:
Polo shirt (short sleeved),
Shorts
Sandals (no socks)
Mozzie repellant
Oh yes, I had to bring the scope
up to ambient temperature after taking it out of the air con.
I have a vague recollection of what Victorian weather used to be like.
Such a dedicated crew!

-5°C is pretty low, even here in Belgium. But when the temperature drops that low it's observeing time from 19pm till 4~5am.
