Partial eclipse from South Australia

Was lucky with the weather this morning but not with a tree that needs a hair cut. We saw most of the eclipse, although by the time the sun breached our local horizon it was well into the eclipse. Had we been on the other side of the range we might have seen all of it.

I saw an interesting prominence today as well and I suspect it was the left over from yesterdays monster prominence, which I never got to image.

As you can see from the image there are a few active regions and one nice big spot. This an 800 odd frames stacked from a 1300 frame avi.

fantastic shot PAul. BTW there is an eruption from one of the sunspots on the eastern limb right now - watching it grow live

Thanks guys,

David, we have quite a lot of cloud here now, so will miss the eruption.

as fast as it went off it has settled, though there seems to be a bit of a new ribbon arching over it now. at the scale on screen i am being spoilt with viewing it at 400 times live video its looks good, bt the actual image - well

You both were lucky, well done - cloudy day in Perth - no chance of taking a photo of anything up-there ..

Great capture Paul. You must have a good eastern horizon. It was very low at the time.

Lovely image. Awesome prominences. It was hard to get the sun down low around home here too.

I assume this image is mirror reversed (in the scope) as the sunspot arrangement is the reverse of what I got through DSLR/lens combo?

Thanks guys,

Graeme, not a good horizon. Maybe you need to drop in for coffee some time and take a look. You will laugh. Not as bad as your place but similar.

Yeah Phil reversed. Imaging through a diagonal.
