Beware of counterfeit memory cards. Yesterday I bought a Sandisk compact flash card on eBay. I looked carefully through the sellers and selected one that was reasonable on postage, 100% rating and located in Oz. The price was $85 for a 2Gb card, far below the RRP but still higher than the average on offer. Immediately after paying, a gut feeling made me google for info on fake sandisk cards, counterfeits in other words. The info I needed was in the first item of the google search, and after checking I concluded that this seller was supplying fakes, so I emailed the seller and asked for an immediate refund and not to despatch the item
if the item was not genuine Sandisk. Of course the seller obliged and my refund was there this morning. Details of the fake Sandisk cards can be found
here I guess the bottom line is check the street prices at a reputable dealer and if it looks too good to be true then it probably is. As the link details, a lot of the Sandisk cards being sold over the net are non genuine, not just the ones sold on eBay.
