Crux to Carina widefield

With lots of cloud around on the horizon I setup for some wide field with the camera and only managed to get 35 good subs before the clouds covered the whole sky.

A dark sky certainly makes a difference to photos and viewing this time when my wife looked at M42 through the scope she said "WOW its in colour now, I have never seen that in colour before I can see red, orange, yellow and blue/green colours ..... HAVE YOU BOUGHT MORE EQUIPMENT...." I said no dear its the new area we live in the sky is so dark we have better contrast and there is no light pollution. she said "WOW what else can we see" then the clouds rolled in.

I am really enjoying a dark sky.

That's a lovely image, Wayne. You are fortunate to live in an area with dark skies now.

I know exactly what you mean Wayne Moving from metro Adelaide to rural NSW and seeing the dark skies here was the catalyst for me to rediscover the enjoyment of exploring the night sky. I took a similar shot to yours back in January - can even see Comet Lemmon just next to A Crux.

This was a 4 panel mosaic, each a stack of 10x4min with a nifty fifty camera lens, taken from the backyard. You don't get views like that in the city!
