Yep, if knighthoods were a democracy he'd get my vote!: thumbsup: He's also played an immense social role that goes unrecognised - he's the guy you point to and say "See kiddies, that's what happens when you take drugs"!

Somehow I can't see him eating cucumber sandwiches and sipping tea in the palace gardens while exchanging pleasantries with HM....

Cheers -

Why not

If they can hand them out to Cliff Richard, Bob Geldof and Paul McCartney, Ozzy is definitely due for a gong.

I would not even give any of them a "night" of my time. Can any of them joust and swear to uphold honour and put their lives on the line in service for the monarch.

Ozzy stoned himself to near death, for Queen and Country of course.

I'd rather they Knight Dr. Who - doesn't matter which one - for inspiring more people than Ozzy ever did. I think a fictional character also has more chance of getting knighted than Ozzy.

How about a knighthood for James Bond. He certainly was a great escort to the olympics.

Every young girl and boy always wants to be a film star at sometime in their lives. HM had to wait a long time but James Bond organised it for her. I think that certainly deserves a gong!

I was listening to Sabbath before I had bum fluff (Masters of Reality was one of the first albums I ever bought) but I was well and truly over them before I had my first shave. So, no I don't think he should be knighted. However, to give him his due Sabbath were one of the few bands that started a whole new musical genre. That is rare. Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys are widely accepted as having founded bluegrass and perhaps In the Court of the Crimson King was the first prog album (though that is open for debate).

If you were going to hand out awards for seminal music, however, I would give my first gong to Brian Eno for 'no pussyfooting' and 'My Life in the Bush of Ghosts' both of which introduced techniques that have been widely copied, often these days by people who have never heard of Eno. I would also consider a gong for Kraftwerk for founding electro-pop.

Pete Townsend's daughter once said that her parents made sure she had no interest in taking drugs. Perhaps Pete should also get a gong for talking Jim Marshall into building guitar amps. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ma...amplifiers.jpg

Isn't Ozzie's damage a result of alcohol abuse?

Yes indeed. A grand mal seizure didn't help either.

How can a Living God be knighted its beneath him.

But he is more deserving then an actor playing a fictional person. Plus Ozzy proved the saying "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger"
