Basic EQ6 Synscan controller use Help!

Just trying the EQ6 second hand unit I have just brought and I am doing something wrong but can't find out what.

The four buttons on the SynScan hand unit which move he mount in RA and DEC. When I press them the mount starts off but doesn't reliably stop

If I press the opposite button then it seems to slow to a stop but at best I keep going too far one side then too far the other.

I have adjusted the Rate setting (1-9) but this only seems to adjust how alarmingly the mount goes off.

What is the trick, should I just tap the buttons lightly, double tap them? Hold them, use the opposite button to stop the motion?

There has got to be a trick here, read the manual, none the wiser. Anybody help PLEASE

Thanks
Roger

Excellent thanks for that Roger, I have the same problem and never figured out why. Now I can finally not worry about things just moving off by themselves!
